Exodus recently split with longtime vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and announced their reunion with frontman Rob Dukes. At the time, Exodus issued a statement saying they had simply parted ways with Souza and that they wished him all the best.
“Announcement! Exodus have parted ways with Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza,” wrote Exodus on their Instagram at the time. “We thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time. We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does.
“And please help us welcome Rob Dukes back to Exodus! We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can. Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned and the beatings will continue.”
While Souza hasn’t issued any lengthy statement on the split, he did respond to a few comments on Instagram saying he was fired. When asked why he never issued a statement by one fan, Souza responded (via Blabbermouth): “Really no statement, I was let go, if you read the [band’s official] statement it says Exodus has parted ways, not Zetro has parted ways!” Souza responded to another fan asking a similar question, saying: “I did not leave, I was let go!! Exodus parted ways with Zetro.”
Souza had a few stints with Exodus over the years between 1986 and 1993, from 2002 to 2004, and then again from 2014 to present day. Dukes fronted Exodus in Souza‘s absence between 2005 and 2014, and sang on Exodus‘ albums from Shovel Headed Kill Machine in 2005 to Exhibit B: The Human Condition in 2010.
Exodus is set to celebrate 40 years of their debut album Bonded By Blood this April with two Bay Area shows; The shows feature Death Angel and Nukem as the openers for both nights, with Blind Illusion as a guest on the first night and Hirax on the second night. Those two dates are:
4/25 Berkeley, CA UC Theatre
4/26 Anaheim, CA House of Blues

Trouble – currently classic guitarists Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin alongside longtime vocalist Kyle Thomas (Alabama Thunderpussy, Exhorder), bassist Rob Hultz, and drummer Garry Naples (Novembers Doom) – is slowly but surely working on the follow-up to their 2013 record The Distortion Field. In an interview with Rebel Radio 92.5 FM, Thomas said Trouble has about eight or ten songs ready to go.
“So, on and off for several years now — I mean, probably better than a decade — there’s been pre-production very slowly just kind of creeping down the line here,” said Thomas. “So, I don’t know — there’s about eight to ten songs, maybe, on this thing. And they’ve been trickling the recorded music versions of them to me so that I can get myself in gear and started.”
On a potential release date for a new Trouble record, Thomas chose not to get anyone’s hopes up and simply said they’re working on it.
“I couldn’t give you a timeline on it. I’m always scared to do that anyway, because it seems like every time you say something’s gonna happen at a certain time, it doesn’t. I think more importantly, we’re busy, we’re working on it, and that’s something that really hasn’t happened for a long time. But, yeah, we’re ready to get this thing going and give everybody a quality Trouble record. It’s been a long time.”
In the meantime, you can check out some footage of Trouble playing their first show since 2023 (and second this decade overall) below. The show took place on January 25 at the Cobra Lounge in Chicago, IL. The show ran as follows:

Bassist Lars Lindén (who is currently still going through cancer treatment) commented: “The fact that we lost 2 members doesn’t really change anything negative for those of us who are left. Petri and I are used to people coming and going and sometimes visions diverge. For my part, I’m glad I’m alive, fighting cancer for nearly 2 years and happy that we could finally take this step, now looking forward to the writing of the next real album.”
Guitarist Petri Kuusito added: “I haven’t thought much about only having three songs left. Of course, it would have been nice to get a whole album out but given the circumstances I am still happy to get out what we have left. I feel that it is music that I can really stand for, I always like to combine melody with aggression and want to capture some kind of feeling, partly with the melodic but also in the more technical and fast more aggressive riffing. I have always thought that quality must come before quantity and then it can sometimes take longer, but sometimes you need a kick in the ass to get going.”
Vocalist Tommie Wahlberg weighed in: “The last 4 years have been rough in many ways, and a lot has happened, both good and bad. It’s going to be really fun to get our songs out now that everything has settled down again. As for the lyrics, it’s about our inner torments and fears, the broken things that we’re constantly working on fixing in order to function. And the inevitable things we must face within ourselves to win. Overall, it’s fun to be back, I hope you like what we have with us.”
